Recently I ran into a little support problem to do with DirectX. It got me thinking about what I need to know to run a game on my computer. I need to know about DirectX, Direct3D, what kind of video card I have, how much video vs. regular memory I have and so on... I'm under the impression that most players don't want to have to deal with any of that. They want to play a game, not get an engineering degree. So I wrote this article to (hopefully) demystify at least one part of equation. This is aimed at regular players and not at computer experts or programmers, and hopefully uses enough plain language to make the concept clear to anyone.
